6. Taurine, taurine derivatives and the immune system

چکیده
Taurine, a non-protein sulfur amino acid, is the most abundant free amino-acid in the body and plays an important role in several essential biological processes such as bile acid conjugation, maintenance of calcium homeostasis, osmoregulation, and membrane stabilization [1,2,3]. Taurine reaches particularly high concentrations in tissues with high oxidative activity and in tissues exposed to elevated levels of oxidants (retina, kidney, heart, immune inflammatory cells) [4,5]. It suggests that cytoprotective properties of taurine, demonstrated in various in vitro and in vivo studies, attribute primarily to its antioxidant activity and are not tissue specific [6, 7]. At a site of inflammation, taurine is known to react and detoxify hypochlorous acid (HOCl) generated by neutrophil myeloperoxidase–halide system. This reaction results in formation of less toxic taurine chloramine (TauCl) [8,9]. TauCl, as well as taurine bromamine (TauBr), the product of taurine reaction with hypobromous acid (HOBr), exerts anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, proapoptotic, and antibacterial properties [10,11,12,13]. P-85: Detrimental Effects of High Concentration Taurine on Sperm Motility and Viability
Background: Taurine regulates an unusual number of biological phenomena, including heart rhythm, contractile function, blood pressure, platelet aggregation, neuronal excitability and body temperature. It appears to be a sperm motility factor (SMF), although the mechanism that maintains motility has apparently not been elucidated. It may act by alterations in either ion transport (osmoregulation)...
متن کاملThe effect of eight weeks of taurine supplementation on the amount of myostatin, fasting glucose, and insulin resistance in soleus muscle tissue in male rats with type 2 diabetes
Background: Type 2 diabetes is the most common endocrine disease in the world. Recently, it has been shown that the amino acid taurine can be effective in diabetes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of eight weeks of taurine supplementation on myostatin, fasting glucose, and insulin resistance in soleus muscle tissue of male rats with type 2 diabetes. Materials and methods...
متن کاملEvaluation of the effect of taurine on cisplatin-induced hepatic injury and oxidative stress in male rats
Introduction: The principal dose-limiting factor in the use of cisplatin as an antineoplastic drug is its hepatic toxicity. This study was designed to investigate the protective role of taurine against cisplatin-induced hepatic injury. Methods: Male albino rats (180-220 g) were divided in to 4 groups (n=8) as follows: (1) saline-treated group (2): cisplatin-treated group (10 mg/kg ip) (3): g...

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of taurine and curcumin on in vitro fertilization (IVF) in female mice treated with acrylamideand and its effect on malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration and total antioxidant capacity (TAC). Methods: A total of 48 adult female NMRI mice were randomly divided into 6 groups, including control, curcumin 200 mg / kg, taurine 150 mg / kg...
